We are so pleased to report that, Cenali, the tiny Turkish kitten from the streets of Istanbul finally made her first trans Atlantic journey and arrived safely at JFK! She is one year old, sweet, affectionate, happy and sassy! Cenali is partially paralyzed and her poor little back legs are like pretzels, but she plays, climbs and has adapted to her disability like the courageous little girl she was created to be! God only knows what terrible trauma she experienced and how she survived.

Cenali was seen dragging herself through the streets of Istanbul, wimpering and pleading for attention. She must have been in excruciating pain. She had been living on the streets for a very long time and ignored before her rescuer came into her life. Sadly, it has been determined that there is no available medical or surgical intervention to alleviate her disability because her injuries are so old.
None the less, the ending and her new beginning is a joyous one. She is living at Angels Gate, a private sanctuary, rehabilitation and hospice center in New York with other animals who have similar deformities and paralysis. Thank God for her arrival in the United States.
Sadly, several Turkish friends in Istanbul and Ankara reported to WAG via telephone, that certain participants of Turkish chat rooms are weaving fairy tails of a fate worse than death if Cenali or any other Turkish animal comes to the United States. Their attempts to keep Cenali and other deserving animals prisoners of their fate is inexcuasable and downright insane!
A reminder to all - animals do not recognize borders and if you are an advocate or an activist, stop waving your national flag and playing your anthem and think first of the animals in need!

She was born on the streets of Istanbul. She didn't have much of a chance to begin with! Her litter mate was born deaf. The tiny kittens struggled for existance in a human world.
Her tiny sibling did not hear the car that flattened her tiny body and snuffed out her life.
We can only imagine what caused the structual/spinal deformities on this precious blue eyed beauty. Thank God, she was rescued by a benevolent person and taken to a veterinarian. The radiographs give evidence of severe and debilitating trauma.
In spite of her devastating handicap, she is bright, affectionate and inquisitive. She purrs when spoken to or cuddled and tries to catch imaginary flies with her front paws.
Those in Istanbul who wanted to put her to sleep were thwarted by those who could see the strong will to live and the spirit in her eyes. She is only three months old and will be given a chance to live with other special needs animals.
She will be pampered and spoiled and whatever time God has given to her on this "plane" will be spent in New York; loved, safe and secure!
